He stated this in a speech he delivered at a 3-Day workshop for training of youth from the region on the latest ICT organized by Start Up Arewa in collaboration with Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna yesterday.
Dr. Shettima noted that the north is blessed with brains that can transform the nation in area of ICT but they are handicapped due to lack of exposure which prompted the workshop.
He added that contrary to the general believe that the north is dragging the nation backward in area of ICT, the north is actually in the forefront of ICT revolution in Nigeria, saying, the Sir Ahmadu
Bello Memorial Foundation as part of its Corporate social responsibility and duty to the people of the north is organizing this event.
In his own remark, the Founder of Start Up Arewa, Mohammed Ibrahim Jega said the north cannot be stagnant in respect of ICT because every human endeavours today is connected to technology.
“The way we do business, banking, healthcare services, oil exploration and others is based on ICT. It will be a disaster for us to be left behind in this revolution that will determine the economic power of the world in the nearest future.
“From findings, I’ve discovered that there are lots of innovations in the north and only what they need is a platform for them to realize their potentials. So, this programme is for youth in the north to development their passion for ICT, and that’s why we’re all here today,” he said.
One of the facilitators of the programme from Germany, Mr. Daniel Steves said the programme is to breach the gap between the north and other part of the country.
