Buhari can lead Nigeria safely out of recession – Masari

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has said President Muhammad Buhari has the vision and leadership quality to lead Nigeria out of prevailing global economic recession.

Speaking at the official commissioning of the state secretariat of the Association of Concerned Civil Servants for Change in Katsina yesterday, Governor Masari noted that most OPEC countries, even the leading oil producers, were already in worst situation than Nigeria following the global fall the price of oil.

The governor, who asserted that the President understood the cure to the challenges posed by poverty and other maladies in the country, said “the situation calls for vision and leadership which will not play to the gallery.”

This, according to him, is why Buhari is insisting that Nigeria must prioritize agriculture that sustained the country before the discovery of oil.

Governor Masari also disclosed that plans had been concluded for the screening of the entire permanent and pensionable staff of the state for ghost workers after the on-going verification of the civil servants on contract appointment and local government workforce to check wastages and leakages.

He however said three committees will be established in three senatorial zones of the state to entertain the complaints of any worker who feels aggrieved following the verification exercises.

The governor, who lamented that the local governments had become mere salary collection points for their workers, said the state owed it a duty to sanitize the local councils and make them meaningful to the people.

He also applauded the selfless determination of the members of the Concerned Civil Servants for Change for their necessary support without the fear of losing their positions or being victimized even when the All Progressive Congress (APC) was an opposition party.

Earlier, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Jafaru Dankama, pointed out that they were motivated to re-double their efforts following prompt payment of salaries, payment of outstanding gratuities worth N11 billion left by the previous administration, re-organisation of local government councils, and cancellation of Tenure System imposed on civil servants in the state.

“It is an indisputable fact that the administration of Rt.Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has brought a lot of changes in strengthening all sectors of administration in the state which is the backbone of re-igniting our efforts in enlightening civil servants and other people of the state,” Dankama stated.
